THE FINCHES
HUMAN LIKE A HOUSE
Record release and performance
Thursday, March 1th, 2007, 5-7PM
Printed Matter, Inc. is pleased to present a special evening of performance to celebrate the launch of The Finches'' debut full-length album, Human Like A House. Based in the San Francisco bay area, The Finches are Carolyn Pennypacker Riggs and Aaron Morgan. Please join us on Thursday, March 1st from 5-7 PM for a celebration with the artists, who will play an acoustic set for us. Printed Matter is located at 195 Tenth Avenue at 22nd Street.
With Human Like A House, The Finches present their first full album of 12 tracks, expanding on the success of their self-released CDEP that sold over 1200 copies without distribution. Exhibiting influences like Leonard Cohen and Francois Hardy, The Finches comprise a heartfelt duo who embrace musical storytelling with an elegant simplicity. Both Carolyn Pennypacker Riggs and Aaron Morgan play guitar and sing vocals in a guileless, folk-friendly combination that charms listeners effortlessly.
Human Like a House is packaged in a deluxe chipboard digipack featuring "How I Got Carried Away", a booklet of twelve of Riggs'' woodcuts in a fantastical visual narrative of a girl and her avian friends. Released by Dulc-i-Tone Records, Human Like a House by The Finches is available in-store and online for $16.98.
The Finches have played at SFMOMA, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and the Academy of Sciences, in addition to numerous musical venues. Aaron Morgan has played in bands since he was 14 years old, and has been part of the instrumental group Roots of Orchis for a third of his life. Aaron''s father, a teacher and a pro pedal steel guitar player, contributes to some of the tracks on Human Like A House. In addition to performing solo internationally, Carolyn Pennypacker Riggs has a visual arts background in printmaking and intermedia/new genres. Adding to the album''s family affair, Carolyn''s mother Susan shows off her recorder skills on the track, "The House Under the Hill."
