Fore
[Painted Edition]
Chris Habib /Visitor
New York, NY: Visitor. 2007

Visitor's Fore consists of an altered children's board book; Eating the Alphabet: Fruits & Vegetables From A to Zis painted over in a semi-transparent white wash, and then layered again with black spray paint. In the process, the units of language are covered, only to re-emerge at the command of the artist.

Visitor uses the alphabet to delve into a variety of four letter words, where each letter corresponds to an ironic stencil drawing with a political motive. G is combined with "Grow" and a handgun, Q is for "Quit" and the silhouette of President Bush's face, while U and "Ugly" is illustrated by the American flag. Crassly conflating iconographies, Visitor enacts a literal twisting of language, not unlike the aesthetic and political subjects he depicts.

M.D., F.A.C.S. Haiku Zine. Vol. 1 : U.E.S. Women
Chris Habib / Visitor
New York, NY: Visitor. 2010

M.D., F.A.C.S. is Chris Habib's ode to the surgically enhanced ladies of his native Upper East Side neighborhood. As he explains in the zine's handwritten introduction, Habib conducted a search for the most interestingly sculpted faces in an area where multi-plasty is as ubiquitous as designer handbags. He recorded his observations on the pages of a cloakroom claim ticket book and then transformed these notes into haiku, illustrated with pen and ink drawings. This incisive collection combines Habib's original notes with twelve finished portraits.

Waste
[poster]
Chris Habib
New York, NY: Visitor. 2009

Chris Habib's Waste poster is an artifact of the process of bookmaking. When taken out of its spraypainted "dumpstered coffee cup hand-protector obi" and unrolled, it displays a photocopied grid of hand-burnished proofs pulled roughly from the set of twelve poplar woodblocks. These are part of an ongoing project by Chris Habib/Visitor, who is currently at work on a letterpress on die-cut, reclaimed canvas artist's book of the same name.

But They Don't Blink. Vol. 2 of 3
Chris Habib / Visitor
New York, NY: Visitor. 2008

But They Don't Blink is the second handmade book edition from Visitor/Chris Habib. It is a book about walls and what transpires when society's back is pressed against them. Each volume is a stanza, and each page a line of text and a graphic--handpainted in two colors atop a sheet of "wallpaper". The three volumes of the story provide satirical commentary in rhyme on the state of America's violent fall from prosperity. Volume 1 addresses the hardships facing families in an uncertain job market. Volume 2 targets the decaying social safety net. Volume 3 posits violent revolutionary action as a solution to the effects of putrifying power.

A volume of But They Don't Blink consists of 5 individually hand-painted posters, a block-printed mylar cover and a removable, screw-bound, plastic and cardboard spine. The folios are each signed, numbered and rolled into hand-printed kraft paper blueprint bags.

Fore : Stencil Edition
Chris Habib / Visitor
New York, NY: Visitor. 2007

A bound collection of the intricately cut stencils used to make Fore by Visitor a.k.a. Chris Habib.

In the original version of Fore, Visitor uses the alphabet to delve into a variety of four letter words, where each letter corresponds to an ironic stencil drawing with a political motive.

For this stencil edition, Visitor is giving away the very tools he used to make Fore, encouraging the new owner to "destroy the book with paint and pens...evolve it into something new."
