The Lousy Animals & Friends Coloring Book
[fifth, extended edition]
Stefan Marx
Zurich, Switzerland: Mini Spielzeug. 2010
Stefan Marx's coloring book provides young artists with a collection of enchantingly quirky line-drawn animals who slouch around, wearing goofy expressions and inviting a variety of imaginative responses to their antics. Artists' Fanzines Art Basel Book
Jason Polan
New York, NY: Printed Matter Inc.. 2010
Published on the occasion of the 2010 "Artists' Fanzines" exhibition at Art Basel, Jason Polan's own 8-page fanzine is a celebration of the medium that also provides visitors (and would-be visitors) with a hand-drawn index of the zines included in the show. Using his signature style that synthesizes various objects into rounded and essentialized forms, Polan creates thumbnail sketches of zines by Ryan Foerster, Stefan Marx, Yuri Shibuya, Ari Marcopoulos, Mark Gonzales, Raymond Pettibon, Lisa Anne Auerbach, Tom Sachs, Susan Cianciolo, and Polan himself.

Delinquent
Stefan Marx
Hamburg, Germany: S. Marx. 2009
The drawings, collages, and text pieces that make up Delinquent display Stefan Marx’s ability to transform the pedestrian into something unique and personal. Printed on hot pink paper, Marx’s works manage to animate the objects from a diner’s tabletop, conjure up a bust of Charles Darwin, and use the stationery from a Best Western to reinterpret Picasso’s Demoiselles d’Avignon.

I Wait Here for You Forever as Long as it Takes
Stefan Marx
Zurich, Switzerland: Nieves. 2007
This book of drawings carries on the tradition of disarmingly coy doodles and notes practiced by artists like David Shrigley. Charmingly pathetic google-eyed creatures mingle with jotted-down snippets of texts, suspended in white paper or layered amongst scraggily landscapes. Decorated cast off posters and subscription cards hint at Marx's almost uncontrollable practice of channeling his stream of consciousness into black lines.

I'm Starting To Feel Okay
[limited edition with accompanying publication]
Stefan Marx
Zurich, Switzerland: Nieves. 2006
Exhibiting an almost nihilistic glee, this book of drawings cheerfully gives the finger to death and destruction with cryptic line drawings and watercolored icons of emotion. The book is accompanied by a smaller, black and white zine-like book filled with high-strung renderings of landscapes.
