Synopsis: Mike Brehm, a book designer for the University of Chicago Press, has collected his drawings from 2007 to 2010 in this perfect-bound flipbook. The drawings become a graphic short story collection, mixing ink, pencil, and collage in recurring, organic forms from nature and hybrid, mythic creatures made from human body parts. According to Brehm, “much of [his] work deals with the transience and fragility of relationships, doubt, expectations, the melancholy surrounding memory and [his] efforts to sort truth from varnish." These internal conflicts are expressed and reconciled in Brehm’s illustrations. Suspicion, chaos, and turmoil imbue the heavily gestural figures.
