Erik Kessels Dancing With Numbers Amsterdam, Netherlands: Kesselskramer Publishing. 2012
Synopsis: Start with an experiment: how do the photographs we take change the way we see the world? As part of the Cahiers Collection series' experiments in perception, the creative thinkers of Kesselskramer have compiled this work of large numbers arranged around a square ‘floor’ on which pixilated images and unseen figures twirl and dance. Kessels asks whether the numbers teach us the dance or whether our eye dances with them as an equal partner. How do we make sense of these congregations of dots, and what do we do with that sense? The movement of the eye is a decisive action, and through it we might make art from the blankest canvas.
