Gareth Long and Derek Sullivan The Illustrated Dictionary of Received Ideas. Volume 1: ABC, Galley 3 New York, NY: G. Long and D. Sullivan. 2010
Synopsis: This is the second in a series of books documenting Gareth Long and Derek Sullivan's ongoing project in which the two artists methodically work their way through Gustave Flaubert's Dictionary of Received Ideas, illustrating every word using cleverly-chosen imagery gleaned from contemporary sources. The two artists intend eventually to illustrate all 950 entries in Flaubert’s posthumously published satirical dictionary, but for this, the second limited edition galley, they present "Abelard" through "Cannonball" and continue on through "Chiaroscuro."
