James Hoff
Mémoires
Brooklyn, NY: No Input Books. 2009
Synopsis: Memoirés is a color-copied re-appropriation of Douglas Huebler’s 1973 catalogue of secrets, published by Printed Matter in conjunction with the Software exhibition at the Jewish Museum in New York City in 1970. Huebler’s Secrets is a collection of nearly 1800 “authentic personal secrets” submitted by visitors to the exhibition in exchange for the secrets of strangers. Hoff has re-printed the worn catalogue with particular attention to the blemishes, tears, fingerprints and indentations on each page, resulting in a surprisingly tactile and colorful version of the original. The book is printed in an edition of 100 and comes wrapped in a printed strip of sandpaper.
