Synopsis: With Envelopes, artist Shaun Krupa isolates squares of patterned imagery taken from the inside of security envelopes in an attempt to reveal what is usually hidden and scrutinize what usually goes unnoticed. 34 different patterns display a surprising level of intricacy and visual interest. Optical illusions, undulating waves, hatches, mesh, and snaking forms seem as though they should have some higher decorative purpose than the obfuscation of commercial mail.
