Alin Huma
The Fat-Man Sleeping Under the Shadow of the Castle Is Unconcerned About the Future of Sports and Leisure
Tokyo, Japan: Ski Projects Tokyo. 2007

Synopsis: This collection of lyric black and white photographs printed on ivory paper is an homage of sorts to Jaques-Henri Lartigue. In its pages, artist Alin Huma depicts recreational areas that have fallen into neglect and disrepair. Nature reclaims basketball courts, playgrounds, and cafes, and vines grow up around a wall of abandoned skis. Scenes that might once have appeared in color brouchures and travel advertisements are now melancholy reminders that our attempts to enjoy ourselves and maintain our bodies through exercise are are only temporarily staving off the inevitable.
