It Wanted To Teach The World To Sing (In Perfect Harmony)
Langley, Canada: R. Park. 2008

Synopsis: The "it" of the book's title refers to a simple colored pencil drawing of lines radiating out from a central point; this drawing, through collage and photo manipulation, appears as the object of contemplation and celebration in a series of found National Geographic-style photographs that make up the entirety of Park's book. "It" is the chalkboard in what appears to be a bombed-out schoolhouse, it's the hymnbook in a church, and it fills in for all of the pictures hanging on the wall in Van Gogh's "Bedroom in Arles." The images of "It Wanted to Teach the World to Sing (In Perfect Harmony)" also function as elements of a wall installation with the same title.
