Synopsis: Absent comes in four different forms all packaged together in a cardboard box. Subtitled "a monologue for ones lost," this multi-media collaborative artist's project is an engaging meditation on melancholy. A book, Kees and Edith, the video You Float Like a Feather in a Beautiful World, a CD-ROM of the interactive fairytale, A Fairytale of Moonfish, and a small packet of business cards all treat the theme of absence in interrelated ways. Kees and Edith uses fine line work in combination with printed English and Korean words to create abstract maps of isolation and interiority. Tucked into the pages of the book are removable black and white drawings that add an expressive element to the otherwise diagrammatic design. The business cards take some of the phrases from the book and arrange them into portable, evocative lists. The subject becomes more animated in the video and CD-ROM and both are accompanied by music composed especially for this project.
