Camp Campaign
Ayreeen Anastas, Rene Gabri
New York, NY: Art in General. 2007

"Curious about how a camp such as the one in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba can exist in our time, Ayreen Anastas and Rene Gabri embarked at the beginning of the summer of 2006 on a road trip across the US, starting in New York City and ending on the West Coast. Throughout their journey, Anastas and Gabri filmed the landscape and held interviews and public discussions in parking lots, at memorial sites, community centers and exhibition spaces. In the interviews and programs, they explored the function of camps in the praxis of modern governance."

Blå Skog / Blue Forest
Morten Andersen
Oslo, Norway: M. Andersen. 2009

Morten Andersen's Blå Skog / Blue Forest consists of over 200 pages of full-bleed blue-tinged photographs taken within the interior of 17 different Norwegian forests. Each image focuses upon an area rather than an object - downed trees, webs of branches, carpets of moss and ferns - which collectively provide a topographical study of a lush but eerie blue composite forest completely devoid of human presence.

Leira
Morten Andersen
Oslo, Norway: Hit Me!. 2006

From the publisher: "This catalogue comes from Lillestrom museum. It´s in a nice moderate slipcase, and the book has a very modernistic design, but the pictures of one river and the woods alongside it are in a very dark punk spirit. Quiet and at the same time wild."

A Short Visit : 31 12 2007
Andreas Angelidakis
Istanbul, Turkey: Rodeo. 2008

On December 31, 2007, artist Andreas Angelidakis visited the derelict former residence of famed collector and art dealer Alexander Iolas, who, before his death from AIDS in 1987, unsuccessfully tried to donate his villa and art collection to the Greek state so that it could be turned into an art museum. Designed by Greek architect Dimitris Pikionis, Iolas's villa has been looted and vandalized several times since his death, so that now all that remains are Roman columns and other artifacts too heavy to be easily removed. Angelidakis's somber photographs, taken in darkened and trash-strewn rooms, raise questions about ownership, preservation, and our collective responsibility to protect and care for the important artworks of our time and of the past.
