“Non Sense differs from any of my previous works. For a specific period, my life lost its balance, resulting in a sense of fragility and confinement. Between 2020 and 2022, I captured these photos in several southern cities in China using a point-and-shoot camera carried with me. Amid rapid social development, sensimental education has been weakened, and homogenization affects everyone. These photos document the disappearing sensory phenomena under societal changes and illustrate how they gradually influence people’s value judgments.”

“Non Sense is part of a selection of books from Squeeze Sour, a distribution project founded by Lin Wang, inspired by one of Lin’s friends who works a delivery job while making photo books in China. Due to censorship and the cultural environment, self-publishing in China has become increasingly challenging, with fewer supporters. Squeeze Sour gathers China-based creators who rarely have the opportunity to express themselves. Our mission is to showcase these books to a wider audience and also to bring some fresh air to the US self-publishing community. Despite the constraints of our mundane world, I believe the tang of the squeezing process yields bittersweet yet rewarding outcomes.” -Squeeze Sour
